On-device · No bot · No account
The private meeting
recorder for Mac.
Mac Note Taker is a secure, local, offline meeting recorder. The audio, the transcript, and the summary never leave your Mac. No bot joins the call. No cloud sees a byte. No account is required.
Why secure
A recorder that never phones home.
Every stage of the pipeline runs on your machine. There is no server in the loop to subpoena, breach, or audit. That is the whole point of a local meeting recorder.
Audio stays local
PCM WAV is written to your disk and read by the on-device models. It is never uploaded, never streamed, never backed up to anyone's cloud.
Transcription on the Neural Engine
ASR and speaker diarization run on Apple Silicon via the Neural Engine. The transcript is produced offline, even on a flight.
Summaries you control
Use a local Ollama model for zero data egress, or point Mac Note Taker at your own OpenAI key. Either way the vendor is yours, not ours.
No bot in the call
Nothing joins the meeting as a participant. Your counterpart sees no recorder, no notetaker, no third-party guest on the attendee list.
No account, no sign-in
There is no login, no telemetry funnel, no profile. You buy a license key, you activate, you record. That is the entire relationship.
Works fully offline
Disconnect from the network and the recorder, transcriber, and summarizer keep working. An offline meeting recorder by design, not by toggle.
Cloud notetaker vs. local recorder
The same meeting, two trust models. One sends your conversation to a vendor. One never does.
Cloud notetaker
- Bot joins the call as a visible participant
- Audio uploaded to a third-party server
- Transcript stored in a vendor database
- Recurring monthly subscription
- Account, login, and data-retention policy to vet
Mac Note Taker
- No bot, nothing on the attendee list
- Audio never leaves the Mac
- Transcript stored only in your local library
- One-time $149 lifetime license
- No account, no telemetry, no sign-in
How it works
Record, transcribe, summarize. All on-device.
- 01
Capture both sides locally
ScreenCaptureKit taps system audio and AVAudioEngine taps your mic. Both stream into a local PCM WAV file - no virtual cable, no bot, no upload.
- 02
Transcribe offline
On-device ASR plus speaker diarization turn the recording into a named-speaker transcript. The models run on the Apple Neural Engine, fully offline.
- 03
Summarize on your terms
Generate a bulleted summary and action items with a local Ollama model, or your own OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Mac Note Taker never runs inference for you.
- 04
Store in your own library
Everything lands in a local SwiftData library on your Mac. Export to Markdown when you want to share, on your own schedule, with whom you choose.
Built for privacy-bound work
If your meetings carry NDAs, privilege, or protected health information, a recorder that never leaves the Mac is not a nice-to-have.
For lawyers
Privileged client calls and depositions stay on the machine. No cloud vendor in the chain of custody.
