Cisco Webex on macOS 14.2+
How to record Cisco Webex on Mac without a bot.
Webex native recording is host-only and routes through Cisco's cloud. Bot recorders show up as a third Webex participant most enterprise sites block. Mac Note Taker does neither: it taps Webex system audio at the OS mixer via ScreenCaptureKit, mixes it with your mic, and transcribes locally on Apple Silicon.
The recipe
Three steps, about three minutes.
- 01
Install Mac Note Taker
Download Mac Note Taker from macnotetaker.com, drop it into Applications, and grant Microphone + Screen Recording permission. macOS 14.2 or newer is required for the stable ScreenCaptureKit audio path.
- 02
Join your Webex meeting
Open the Webex app or the Webex web client and join the meeting as normal. You do not need to be the host, you do not need host approval to record locally, and you do not need to invite a Webex bot. Webex sees one participant: you.
- 03
Click record in the menubar
Click the Mac Note Taker menubar icon and press Record. The app captures your microphone and Webex system audio in parallel, runs on-device ASR + diarization, and hands you a named-speaker transcript when the meeting ends.
Why not a bot or Webex native recording?
Webex was built for IT, not for you.
Webex native recording is host-only.
You cannot press Record on a Webex meeting you did not host. The host can grant recording rights manually, but you have to ask each time. The file lands in the host's Webex cloud space.
Bot recorders join the meeting.
Cloud notetakers show up as a Webex participant. Cisco-administered sites often block external participants by domain, so the bot gets denied at the door.
Your audio leaves your machine.
Both Webex native and bot recorders upload your audio. For regulated industries that runs straight into compliance review.
ScreenCaptureKit is policy-blind.
Mac Note Taker reads the OS mixer. Webex site policies, host controls, and tenant settings are invisible to it.
Permissions you will see
No Webex admin involvement.
- Microphone for Mac Note Taker. Standard macOS Privacy & Security grant.
- Screen Recording for Mac Note Taker. ScreenCaptureKit lives under this entitlement, even when only audio is being captured.
- Webex needs Microphone + Camera as usual. Mac Note Taker does not touch Webex's settings or your site policy.
What you get
More than a Webex cloud recording.
Diarized transcript
Mic stream is You. Remote Webex speakers get matched against the cross-meeting voice fingerprint database.

FAQ
Does this work with the Webex web client too?
Yes. ScreenCaptureKit reads the OS audio mixer, so the Webex desktop app, Webex web client, and Webex Calling are all in scope.
Will the Webex host see anything?
No. Webex only surfaces a notification when its own native recording runs. Mac Note Taker operates at the OS layer, invisible to Webex.
What about Webex Events with thousands of attendees?
Works the same. Whatever audio plays on your Mac during the event gets captured.
