Google Meet on macOS 14.2+
How to record Google Meet on Mac without a bot.
Google Meet's native recording is only available on certain Workspace tiers, only to the host, and only when an admin allows it. Mac Note Taker ignores all of that: it taps Meet's system audio at the OS mixer through ScreenCaptureKit, mixes it with your mic, and transcribes locally on Apple Silicon.
The recipe
Three steps, about three minutes.
- 01
Install Mac Note Taker
Download Mac Note Taker from macnotetaker.com, drop it into Applications, and grant Microphone + Screen Recording permission on first launch. macOS 14.2 or newer is required for the stable ScreenCaptureKit audio path.
- 02
Open your Google Meet call
Join the Meet in Chrome, Arc, Safari, or any modern browser. You do not need a Workspace plan that includes recording, you do not need to be the host, and you do not need to invite a bot. Meet sees one participant: you.
- 03
Click record in the menubar
Click the Mac Note Taker menubar icon and press Record. The app captures your microphone via AVAudioEngine and Google Meet system audio via ScreenCaptureKit, mixes them locally, and hands you a diarized transcript when the call ends.
Why not a bot or Meet native recording?
Meet locks out almost everyone.
Meet native recording is paywalled.
Free Google accounts do not get recording. Workspace Business Standard and up do, but only the host can press it, and the file lands in the host's Drive.
Bot recorders join your call.
Cloud notetakers show up in the Meet lobby with a name like "Meeting Bot". Customers ask what it is. Candidates feel surveilled. Some Workspace tenants block external participants by default.
Your audio goes to their cloud.
Bot pipelines upload the call to a third-party transcription service. Privacy review, vendor approval, another SaaS subscription.
ScreenCaptureKit is browser-agnostic.
Meet runs in Chrome, Arc, Brave, Safari. ScreenCaptureKit taps the OS mixer below the browser, so it doesn't care which one you use.
Permissions you will see
No Workspace admin involvement.
- Microphone for Mac Note Taker. Standard macOS Privacy & Security grant.
- Screen Recording for Mac Note Taker. ScreenCaptureKit lives under this entitlement, even for audio-only capture.
- Browser needs Microphone + Camera for Meet itself. Mac Note Taker does not touch the browser or your Workspace policy.
What you get
More than a Drive recording.
Diarized transcript
Mic stream is You. Remote Meet speakers get matched against the cross-meeting voice fingerprint database.

FAQ
Does this work with a personal gmail.com Meet?
Yes. Free Google accounts cannot use Meet native recording at all - Mac Note Taker works the same way regardless of account tier.
Does Meet show a recording notification to other participants?
Meet only shows that banner when its own native recording is running. Mac Note Taker runs at the OS level, so Meet does not surface anything to other participants.
Do I need Chrome specifically?
No. ScreenCaptureKit taps the OS mixer below the browser. Arc, Brave, Safari, Vivaldi - all fine.
