For therapists

The session
stays in the room.

Mac Note Taker records intake and session audio on the Mac on your desk. Transcription happens on Apple Silicon. There is no cloud transcription vendor between you and your client.

We are not a HIPAA-certified clinical product. Always get explicit consent from the client before recording, and follow your licensing body's rules for retention. We just remove the cloud transcription vendor from your data flow.

The problem

Why therapists cannot use a generic cloud notetaker.

A client in active treatment has not consented to a Fireflies or Otter bot joining the session, uploading their voice to a SaaS server, and storing the transcript in a vendor tenant. The therapeutic frame is the first thing that breaks. The legal and ethical exposure is the second.

  • Mental-health audio is some of the most sensitive personal data there is.
  • Most cloud notetakers will not sign a meaningful confidentiality or BAA for individual practice.
  • Telehealth clients are increasingly wary of any third party joining the call.
  • Notes that need to live in a private practice should not also live in a vendor tenant.

What this means for therapists

On the device. Off the vendor list.

Session audio stays local

WAV file lives in the local SwiftData store on your Mac. You decide when to delete it.

Notes you draft, not the bot

Transcript and optional 5-bullet summary help you write the SOAP / DAP note quickly. The note belongs to you, not a vendor.

Telehealth without a bot

System audio capture means the remote client never sees a notetaker bot. Just you and them.

Easier ethics conversation

We make no clinical certification claim. We do keep the audio off the wire, which is a meaningfully easier conversation with your licensing board.

In practice

What therapists use it for.

Intakes

  • First-session recording captures both sides for the chart note.
  • Markdown export drops into the practice management tool.
  • Audio is deleted after the note is written; only the summary remains.

Ongoing sessions

  • Telehealth audio recorded without a bot joining the call.
  • 5-bullet summary helps draft SOAP / DAP notes faster.
  • Voice fingerprints recognize the same client across sessions.

Supervision + consultation

  • Group consult calls diarized cleanly across multiple voices.
  • Action items per supervisee tracked across sessions.
  • No third-party processor anywhere in the chain.
